The Last Month, Day 11: On Main Street

Knowing that it's going to be awhile before we can get out, just the two of us, after the baby is born, I asked my mom to babysit the little goats last night so N and I could go out to dinner. After eating at Caffe Molise on 100 South, we made our way back to Main Street where we had parked, and watched as three people carried canvases out of a building and loaded them into the minivan parked in front of us. Then I noticed as I was climbed into our car that the last canvas was a painting of my sister Camilla. I was momentarily speechless, but I jumped back out onto the street and said, "Um, that's a painting of my sister." The guy gamely let me take a photograph, and explained that there had been a fundraiser to raise money for refugee families who had been relocated to Salt Lake City, and they had been auctioning paintings. The experience was surreal. (Notice the rollerskates--rollerskating was always very big with us.)

Is it a self-portrait? She looks pretty despondent for someone wearing roller skates.

How amazing! Is that Camilla? And right after you blogged about her? Good thing you had a camera.

Brad Slaugh! Damn, I had to sit forever for that painting.

Alas, my career as a painter's model is over.

That is so cool! Glad you were at the right place to snag the shot.
