I dyed some Wool2Dye4 ultramarino sock yarn this morning, in between baking bread and carpooling kids to kindergarten. I am a domestic goddess if ever there was one. Actually, the dyeing was so easy that it felt almost anticlimactic--until I rinsed the yarn and took it outside to photograph it. I used Gaywool's acid dye (found at Three Wishes) in a big ol' enamel pot that I usually use for soapmaking. The colors I used are called Lucern (green) and Indigo (indigo). I filled the pot with water that reached about 3/4 of the way up the yarn, sprinkled the dye powder on, brought it to a boil and then poked it for half an hour while it cooked. I poured a bunch of seasalt on it about halfway through, but I don't know what effect that could have had. It was just an idea. I'm in love with the finished product and as soon as it's dry I'll wind it into a ball and swatch it up. I was ostensibly doing it for the Dye-O-Rama yarn swap, but I think I'll try a few other colorways with different skeins and send the best one. Or the second best.

Wow, Katherine, that's wonderful. I have a bottle of Lucerne and it's my second favorite Gaywool color (after Cedar). I'm not sure the salt was necessary. I think it's already added to the Gaywool dyes.
