Banana Coconut Cream Pie.

I really like to cook, especially desserts. The family dined upon this lovely creation in the garden the other day. My mother was there to share it with us (thank you for your kind words of concern). More tests are being run to determine what is going on with her, but it appears right now that she has a thyroid condition called Wilson's Syndrome that very often mimics heart attacks. The upside is that she won't drop dead of a heart attack at any moment, but she is still recovering from the angiogram which is its own hell. I've been so busy that I haven't even checked my email in eight days, which is weird for me. I probably haven't gone that long without getting online since I was a teenager. Before most people had home access to the internet. It was actually pretty nice, and surreal.

Much knitting has been done, mostly to sooth my nerves. I'm working on two pairs of socks, totating between them, and I'm also working on The Neefer's Cotton Fleece cabled hat, which makes for a nice break from the socks. I saw my maternal grandmother (after whom I was named and who taught me to knit when I was eight years old) on Mother's Day, and it was nice to chat about knitting. She doesn't understand putting lots of work into complicated items like socks that are pretty much filling a basic need. Of course, this is the woman who tats with sewing thread and knits mile after mile of cotton garterstitch leper bandages. She also knits a lot of snakes for her 54 grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren. I got her permission to look through her SERIOUSLY stuffed basement (we're talking a packrat mentality to the point of mental illness) for old knitting patterns and magazines. That thought makes me simultaneously excited and terrified. I could unearth treasures or I could stumble across small dead animals mummified in dust. Or worse. But it's worth the risk. This lady throws NOTHING away and she's lived in that house at the edge of Y Mountain for decades.

One last thing: Margene is going to have a Trekking sock KAL and I remembered having gotten some a few months ago at The Wool Cabin, purely for stash enhancement. I got home from Stitch'n'Bitch last night and checked the colorway and it turns out that I have in my possession the great 100! So now I have to do it. Posted by Picasa
