The Salt Lake City Downtown Gallery Stroll is the third Friday of every month, and Dinosaur Horsey Princess (although here she is the Green Fairy Princess) and my mom accompanied me this month. We hit Kayo Gallery first because it's usually both good stuff and cutting edge. And I know a lot of the people who show there. It was the gallery's one year anniversary, so Kenny presented a group show with several artists who have shown there in the last year, including my sister Camilla. Camilla's pieces were three "dolls" made out of fabric with Sculpey heads, hands, feet, and in one case, very realistic female genetalia. She starts with white Sculpey and paints it after baking it, and there's no denying the amazing talent and ability. The energy of her pieces was a little creepy--an old friend of hers who was there commented and I had to agree. A lot of the works shown were creepy (or gross--what the hell happened to Sri Whipple when he was young?!), and some I didn't want the Fairy Dinosaur to look at much at all, so we hit the Phillips next. Karen from Stitch'n'Bitch was there, and it was nice to have a little chat. I always love her red blanket coat which she was wearing, and I admit that it made me stare. It's very striking. Anyway, Philips was wonderful--the landscapes made me want to shell out a few thousand, as usual. And Dinosaur loved the basement full of eclectic sculptural and visual pieces. They had a big glass multicolored mallard duck that she wanted to take home, and several others that she made my mom and me look at for a long time. After that it was past Dinosaur's bedtime, so we headed home. Great art makes February a little easier to bear.

hey - let me know if you go again. I've been meaning to take the stroll!
Which old friend, eh?
And just wait till you see the June show. Kayo will be filled with a couple hundred of those dolls.
Doesn't Karen just have the best sense of style.
